Small Ball Snapshot: The Work of Shutting It Down
I wrapped up my final keynote of 2025 this week with the GKW group, and with that, I’m doing something I’m not very good at. I’m trying to shut it down for the rest of the year.
Between baseball and speaking, I’ve been running hard since April. That’s not a complaint. I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m sure I could keep going without hesitation. But at some point, even the people who love the work need to back away from it.
Here’s my challenge. I don’t like to go too long without working on my business. So the newsletters will continue. The podcasts will still be released. They’re already recorded. If a client or a prospect reaches out, I’ll always take the call. But I plan to limit social media and email as much as possible and let my team take the wheel for a month.
More time with my wife and kids. More reading. More music. Some vacation. More meditation. More self-reflection. Less noise.
But I’ll be honest. I’m not sure what “shutting it down” actually looks like for someone whose brain races a million miles a minute. Am I so wired for the next rep, the next project, the next dopamine hit that relaxing will feel foreign? Maybe. Probably.
We all need to hit pause eventually. We all need to exhale. We all need to practice doing less so we can return with more.
That’s Small Ball.
Question: Where in your world do you need to adjust how you show up while still staying true to who you are?
